ShapeDrawing Challenge ✏️

Shape Drawing Warm-Ups for a Classroom

A short shape exercise can provide a clear art invitation before a longer project. Keep the task concrete enough to explain once, while leaving the finished image open to individual interpretation.

Try a practical approach

Explain the action, not the answer

Provide one starting outline and ask learners to add lines until it suggests something of their own. You can show how turning the paper changes the view without demonstrating a finished picture that everyone is expected to reproduce. Offer larger paper or a written idea option if useful.

Discuss what changed

Invite a few participants to describe an addition or a rotation. This is an opportunity to notice decisions, not a test of drawing quality. If using a published book in a group, check the relevant usage terms instead of assuming that ownership permits copying every page for the class.

Keep the next idea open

Shape Drawing Challenge gives artists 16 repeated beginnings, six illustrated examples per shape, and room for 480 independently chosen drawings.

Try the separate website exercise or print the website idea planner.
