Try the reference task before deciding

Baby Robots starts with little machine outlines for tracing. The real interiors help show whether following printed lines is the desired activity before moving to independent robot drawing or shape-based invention.

Printing the whole picture

Use portrait orientation and fit the original image to your printer’s usable area. Avoid a crop-to-fill setting. Keep a grid reference and blank worksheet at the same scale. Use spare paper when the sample is a construction reference.

Keep reference and invention separate

After the actual sample task, choose whether a new idea on your own outline sounds interesting. Compare these two purposes before treating a reference book as an invention prompt.

Keep the next idea open

Shape Drawing Challenge gives artists 16 repeated beginnings, six illustrated examples per shape, and room for 480 independently chosen drawings.
